remove hard Drive write protect

System: Windows XP
Hardware: Seagate 80GB portable hard drive
Symptom: cannot write files into the portable hard drive
Reason: unknown. Probably related to the FAT format of hard drive.

Solution:
open cmd
type “chkdsk g: /f ” (without quotes)
(Here g is the disk letter of the problematic drive)

update:

I got the same error for my 8 GB flash drive and this method doesn’t work.

Search online for other methods, like change registry value, or use diskpart. None of them working.
